![]() ![]() Beds were comfortable and we had wonderful resful nights sleep and we even slpet in every morning as we were sleeping so soundly. There was free wifi and the signal was good and access speed was excellent. Facilities included cooking facilities, large fridge, air conditioning and heating, general cooking appliances, plates, cutlery etc. The unit had everything we could have wanted and was very clean and tidy. We stayed at the Black Cockatoo for three nights in the Tiger Room Suite. The Garden Safari Tent - fully self-contained except for bathroom facilities - 1 double bed and 2 singles - $65 double or shared twin/$80 for 3 /$95 for 4 per night. The Luxury Safari Tent - fully self-contained except for bathroom facilities - 4 single beds - $65 double or shared twin/$80 for 3 /$95 for 4 per night. The Garden Studio - a fully self-contained cabin except for shared bathroom facilities - double bed - $80 per night. There is a double bed and a single in the bedroom and it is $90 double/shared twin or $100 for 3. The Tiger Room Suite - a three-room apartment with kitchen/lounge, bedroom and own bathroom. It has a double bed plus a single bed and is $105 double/shared twin per night or $115 for 3. Choose from our units: The Wattle Studio - a completely self-contained, air-conditioned, luxury cabin with its own bathroom and kitchen. At the Black Cockatoo we offer a top end location for a budget price - perfect for the budget-minded holidaymaker, traveler, cyclist or backpacker looking to explore Nannup and its surrounds or the south-west. Each unit is hidden in a secluded part of the garden and welcomes the visitor with a feeling of privacy and tranquility - and yet is only a short walk into the centre of town. We have just built a new jarrah-cabin, guest bathroom - and it is a delight. On his advice, I went for a stroll near the Blackwood River in the late afternoon, passing a tree to which markers had been attached showing the wildly differing heights that the river had reached during its periodic floods. Garry was an extremely welcoming host who had information about the area coming out of his ears. The other residents were a young Aussie couple from Perth who were there with their baby, and a Japanese lady, Tamano-san, who was learning English while working as the cleaner. With no Internet or TV, talking or reading were the only sources of entertainment. a deck for yoga/pilates, wood stove for heating, outside toilet, etc. Run by Garry, a Kiwi ex-commodities broker, and his partner Mamiko-san, it's chock-full of memorabilia from all over the world, with countless little unexpected touches in both the main building and the garden, e.g. This is a hostel lauded in both my guidebooks for its dedication to environmentally-sensitive living, and it was certainly unique amongst all the hostels I stayed in on my trip. Nannup, a small town next to the Blackwood River, seemed like an appealing place to spend the night as it contained the Black CockatooĬamellodge. ![]() I'll be seeing a lot more of them as I venture further into Tall Timber Country. Karri trees are a type of eucalyptus (like almost every other type of tree in Australia) that can grow up to 90m high, making them among the tallest trees in the world. ![]() There was a short "karri walk" near the cave, which I wandered along. shawls (wafer-thin sheets of limestone), however I soon realised that I was becoming caved out (presumably better than caved in), and it's unlikely I'll be visiting any more caves in the near future. Jewel Cave was significantly larger than Lake Cave, and contained some formations not seen in the other, e.g. Unfortunately that also extended to her jokes. She clearly had a template for her cave spiel, as there was roughly 90% commonality between her description of Jewel Cave and her description of Lake Cave. Jewel boxJewel Cave was next on my agenda after the whale-watching, and as luck would have it I ended up with the same guide as I'd had at Lake Cave. ![]()
